Steak & Bbq Sauce Rolls - The Hard Way

There's not a thing wrong with your traditional steak sambo topped with plenty of MASTERFOODS barbecue sauce. This is a variation where the steak gets a quick dry rub and then has a dip in the instant home made sauce, making it even more delicious. Be warned, this recipe is addictive. Note you can ditch both amounts of cayenne to keep this kid friendly.

    Sirloin Steaks
    thin (you can use scotch fillets if you prefer)

    tsp
    Ground Paprika
  • 2
    tsp
    Celery Salt
  • 0
    tsp
    Cayenne Pepper
  • 1
    whole
    Brown Onion
    large, peeled and sliced
  • 4
    tbsp
    Neutral Oil
  • 4
    whole
    Bread Rolls
    steak size, not sweet, soft hamburger or hot dog rolls

    Tomato Sauce
  • 1
    tbsp
    Brown Sugar
  • 0
    tsp
    Cayenne Pepper
  • 2

    Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2
    tbsp
    Cider Vinegar
  • 1

    Dry Mustard
  • 3
    tbsp
    Water

Directions

  • 1 Combine the paprika, celery salt and cayenne and sprinkle over both sides of the steaks.
  • 2 Fry the onions on the flat grill in half the oil and the steaks in the remainder.
  • 3 Add a very little water (or beer) to the onions if they start to burn.
  • 4 While these are cooking, combine all sauce ingredients in your wok and bring to the boil, then simmer.
  • 5 Transfer the steaks and onions to the sauce and simmer for a minute or two.
  • 6 Place a steak with plenty of onions and sauce in each roll.
