Just back from a week between Hayman and Hamilton Islands.

If I go to a resort, I expect to be the fattest person there not the skinniest, as happened at Hamilton.

Crook expensive Italian, a quite OK steakhouse that strangely operated like a Coles Cafeteria (see picture) and a stroke of luck in the pretty good seafood joint where the young apprentice killed the 6 large mudcrabs to be presented live that evening, so they sold them cooked and chilled....

  • Gold Dinner

I was lucky enough to be at Sydney’s biggest charity do, the Gold dinner which this year raised nearly $900, 000 for the Sydney Children’s hospital and has pulled an amazing $10 million in the past decade.

Matt Moran’s catering company did a great job with the food, as you can see. The only downside was the enthusiasm of the waiters (who donated their time too) in re-filling my glass. Very messy the next day.

  • World's Best BYO

Hail the conquering hero. I completely fluked the wine options game at the World’s Best BYO dinner at Quay restaurant last night, beating 200 others including a couple of masters of wine. If only I had the same luck at the races. Peter Gilmore’s tucker was amazing as usual, as you’d expect of Australia’s top rated restaurant and the dinner raised the best part of $200k. Yippee.

Aussiebarbie.com.au and boys Can cook donated a couple of raffle prizes to the recent Rugby Union players Association lunch.

President and ex Randwick monster Omar Hassenein spoke as did the Foxtel team of Greg Clark, Phil Kearns and Rod Kafer, the latter two being much funnier without the restrictions of TV.

It is great to see successful people giving something back to those less fortunate. I spent Tuesday lunchtime with some of the Waratahs rugby stars and some homeless men from Mission Australia. All I did was barbecue some fabulous AC Butchery meat. Waratah players including Lachie Turner (how can he be that big AND that fast?), Drew Mitchell, Daniel Halangahu and Kurtley Beale took the men through a gym session and then up on the roof for lunch. The players were very generous with their time...

I thought the BBQ business was supposed to quieten down after Australia Day. Not this year. I’ve been booked to take aussiebarbie.com.au to do some work with The Brumbies rugby team, at The Sydney Royal Easter Show, at the Orange Food festival and more work with Mission Australia. All will be great fun and allow me to mix with lots of great people.

I am madly writing my fourth book in four years with Penguin-done 120 out of 160 recipes but the last ones are always the hardest...

  • Aussiebarbie Cooks For The Homeless

Aussiebarbie did it's bit for Christmas with a BBQ for nearly one hundred homeless men and women last Friday in conjunction with Mission Australia.

Aussiebarbie did it's bit for Christmas with a BBQ for nearly one hundred homeless men and women last Friday in conjunction with Mission Australia. The barbie was held at mission Australia’s Darlinghurst mission. With a couple of helpers, Grant Booker and Miles Goodman, we cooked ten kilos of steaks and ninety beef sausages, as well...
