Kimbo's Blog - May 08

A very big week it was too. Shot a heap of videos for the website on Wednesday all about how NOT to cook all sorts of things on the barbie. Highlight for me was working with the lovely Renee Slansky, Inside Sport’s model of the year who camped her role up fantastically.

A family trip to Melbourne saw business pushed quickly aside for some serious fang work. Flower Drum on Thursday night was as good as ever, but breathtakingly expensive now. Friday lunch at Press Club; very good tucker with a lot of love in the cooking- the seven hour cooked beef stifado didn’t do much for my appetite for dinner at the casino. Bistro Guillaume was again excellent, they have really re-defined up market bistro food and the whole leg of Flinders island lamb was worth the trip south. I have been ‘gonna’ get to Da Noi for years and finally managed on Saturday. Décor is ordinary and we fished up in the courtyard on a freezing Melbourne night. The best of the food was very good, but some was pretty pedestrian. Lau’s family Restaurant was the happy surprise of the trip for lunch on Sunday. Cheap as chips for what you get and wonderful food. The comparisons with ‘The Drum’ are unavoidable. If only the had the Peking Duck at Lau’s. Grilled fish and salad for fatso here for the rest of the week. Kimbo.
