Welcome to aussiebarbie.com.au

We’re here to help Australian blokes barbecue better and have plenty of fun doing it.

We want to help you do the basics better, like cooking the perfect steak and not burning the snags.

And we offer you dozens of simple recipes beyond steaks and snags that will grow to hundreds on this site over time.

Plus, there are plenty of hints and tips; you can ask questions or exchange ideas and win all sorts of barbecue prizes.

Aussiebarbie.com.au is all about the way Australians barbecue today. That’s not to say that many of our recipes don’t come from all around the world.

But we understand that most Australians fry and grill on gas barbecues rather than the hotplate over bricks of years ago or the slow cooking and smoking focus of the Americans. We will get to some smoking recipes later on.

For now, we hope that aussiebarbie.com.au helps you enjoy cooking for your family or entertaining your friends because barbecueing is as much about friendship and hospitality as it is cooking food.

Kim Terakes.

P.S. Remember, turn the bloody steaks once and don’t poke the bangers!

WHO IS KIM TERAKES?
Kim Terakes is a hopeless foodie. His twenty five year advertising career was really just an excuse to have lunch in restaurants every day.

He has written about food and restaurants since the late eighties for titles like Australian Gourmet Traveller, Vogue Entertaining, BRW, Sydney Morning Herald Good Living and the Sunday Telegraph. He was the restaurant reviewer for the Sun Herald for several years and the wine writer with Peter Bourne for another couple. Terakes contributed to the Good Food Guide throughout the nineties and has been the food writer for GQ magazine for the past five years. He currently runs the That’s Entertaining in store and advertising program for Vintage Cellars.

He started the Boys Can Cook cooking school (www.boyscancook.com.au) late in 2004 which has been a runaway success.

Boys Can Cook inspired barbecue classes at Fox Studios in Sydney in the summer of 05/06 which led to aussiebarbie.com.au

Like many Aussie blokes, Kim Terakes started barbecueing on picnics with a sheet of iron balanced on a couple of rocks. He was always stuck behind the barbie at the footy club because he was the only one who didn’t burn the onions.

Today, as a food marketing consultant, cooking teacher and manager of aussiebarbie.com.au, Kim Terakes is very happily up to his ears in food, usually with barbecue tongs in his hand.
